Summarize the article, and explain its significance to the course content and global health. Include the link or citation. No abstract is needed. Please include a reference page and attach your work as WORD document.
Your paper should be 2-3 pages long excluding the title page and reference page.
Your paper must:

Summary of Article

            According to the article, “Emerging and Neglected Infectious Diseases: Insights, Advances and Challenges,” the author talks about how they are a significant burden on public health as well as the global economic stability. The article further explained how these infectious diseases have been among the leading causes of disability and death. In fact, it was reported that these diseases have made it hard to have appropriate health security and partly it is because of the emergence of new, unrecognized diseases of global impact. According to the author, infectious diseases are generally brought by microorganisms where they enter a host through the mouth, nose, genital openings, eyes as well as the skin. Within the past three and a half decades, it is reported that there has been an emergence of over 30 new infectious agents that are mostly zootonic and correlate with environmental, socioeconomic and ecological factors (Nii-Trebi, 2017). The continued increase in these factors puts humans at high risk which requires the setting up of effective strategies of controlling these diseases.

            The article talks about certain infectious diseases such as Ebola fever, Lassa fever, influenza and Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever. The emerging infectious diseases have received greater attention due to their effect on human health. The author further explained that the major causes of these infectious diseases a follow specific processes such as genetic recombination, gene mutation and reassortment. Other causes are environmental factors such as natural disasters, deforestation, and expansion of agricultural practices. The infectious diseases remain to be a burden with approximately 25% of all deaths globally occurring as a result of them (Nii-Trebi, 2017). There have been progresses made on combating these diseases with technological advances such as molecular diagnosis and sequencing technology playing a major role in controlling these diseases. The author then suggested that there is a need to have aggressive research on the characteristics of the responsible pathogens for appropriate diagnostics and vaccine development.

Significance to Course Content and Public Health             The article is significant to course content and global health because it mainly provides an insight to the emerging infectious diseases and their potential impact. In essence, the author gives an elaboration of the different infectious diseases that have been in existence for a long time as well as those that are currently emerging. This provides ample information to health practitioners and nations with vital information that can be used in the process of finding vaccines to cure or reduce the effect they have on human health.
