GENERATION STARTUP captures the struggles and triumphs of six recent college graduates who put everything on the line to build startups in Detroit.

Shot over 17 months, it’s an honest, in-the-trenches look at what it takes to launch a startup.

Directed by Academy Award winner Cynthia Wade and award-winning filmmaker Cheryl Miller Houser, the film celebrates risk-taking, urban revitalization, and diversity while delivering a vital call-to-action—with entrepreneurship at a record low, the country’s economic future is at stake.

Through our subjects’ personal stories, viewers go on an emotional journey in the trenches with these young entrepreneurs who start out unsure and somewhat clueless, hit rock bottom, and then begin to figure it out. Some even become hugely successful by conventional standards in the time we follow them. But regardless of conventional success or not, they all succeed tremendously in coming to know themselves better, defining their values and growing into responsible, clear-sighted young people who have the courage to take smart risks, live life on their own terms and work hard to build something bigger than themselves that will contribute to their communities.
