What do we mean by an emerging technology?

For your final presentation, we are asking that you leverage everything you have learned in the course to identify and investigate an ethicalissue related to aspecific emerging technology of your choice. What do we mean by an emerging technology? This is technology that will have a social impact in the next 4-5 years (e.g. drones, VR, AI, or ‘the internet of things’.) This technology should be related to computer science. Looking for an idea? Read through the headlines of tech websites like Wired, Motherboard, TechCrunch, or ZDNet and see if anything catches your eye.

You should prepare a four-minute talk (can’t go over ±10 secs of this time limits) about your technology and your thesis about an ethical issue surrounding it and present it to the class. As with previous writing assignments, we expect you to use Tavani’s Comprehensive Strategy to come to a conclusion about the topic. Explain your reasoning at each step of the process. After explaining the technology and ethical issue, be sure to make a strong argument supporting your position. Because of the tight time constraint, you will not be able to use a slideshow during your talk. You are welcome to use notes.
Evaluation

20 points come from a grading rubric. The rubric evaluation categories will be:

1) Delivery – how engaging your talk is

2) Organization – how well you organize the information

3) Course knowledge – your knowledge of course material

4) Research – your research into your topic.
